The mourning season for Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, in Pakistan has been accompanied by growing religious and civic demands from citizens calling for the reopening of land routes for pilgrimage.

Followers of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, in Pakistan have emphasized the historical and spiritual importance of Karbala as a symbol of peace and resistance to injustice. They are calling on the government to remove obstacles and facilitate pilgrimage travel to Iraq and Iran.

The demands stress the need to respect religious freedoms, protect the civil rights of pilgrims, and end years of uncertainty affecting those seeking to visit the holy cities of Karbala and Mashhad.

According to Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, religious figures have described the government’s passive and unserious approach as the main cause of widespread dissatisfaction among millions of Husseini pilgrims.

The report said various Shia political and social figures in Pakistan have expressed deep concern over the continued closure of land routes to holy Karbala and holy Mashhad, saying the situation has caused serious anxiety within the country’s Shia community.

Followers of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, in Pakistan have said that, if government officials show goodwill and political will, the routes could be reopened within a week. They stressed that pursuing this lawful demand is their undeniable right.
