Husseini service processions (Mawakib) from cities across Iraq have gathered at the shrine of Sayyid al-Qasim ibn Imam Musa al-Kazim (peace be upon them) in Babylon Governorate to mark the anniversary of his martyrdom, observed on Tuesday, 22 Jumada al-Awwal.

The city of al-Qasim has been preparing for the occasion for several days, with mourning gatherings and services arranged for visitors. According to a correspondent for the Shia Waves Agency, the shrine’s dome flag was changed from green to black during a ceremony attended by large numbers of officials and members of the public, marking the beginning of the mourning period.

Service and mourning processions began arriving two days ago, setting up tents and reception facilities near the shrine to serve visitors expected from within Iraq and abroad. Mourning assemblies have also been held at the shrine since Monday night, commemorating Sayyid al-Qasim and his defence of Islam and the path of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).

The shrine’s administration has invited believers to attend the symbolic funeral procession for the Honourable al-Qasim, scheduled for Tuesday at 8:00 a.m.
