France: Yellow Vest Protests Renewed Over Rising Living Costs and Government Policies

New demonstrations by the Yellow Vest movement took place on Saturday in several French cities, including Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse and Rennes. Protesters, joined by trade union representatives and students, denounced rising living costs and the government’s economic and education policies, calling for better living conditions and stronger public services, particularly in the education sector.

In Paris, tensions and heavy congestion were reported near Porte de Charenton, where the march ended. Security forces used tear gas to disperse protesters. Demonstrators carried placards calling for better living conditions and freedom, criticizing President Emmanuel Macron and government policies, and demanding greater financial support for schools.

The renewed protests came amid heightened security measures following violent demonstrations on October 17 and 24. Participants also voiced opposition to rising racism and called for the protection of civil liberties, social justice and improved economic conditions. The latest rallies have once again brought the Yellow Vest movement into the spotlight as public discontent over purchasing power and government policies continues.
