UN Reports Over 6,000 Measles Cases in Yemen in Three Months, Including 25 Deaths

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported over 6,000 suspected measles cases in Yemen during the first quarter of 2026, resulting in 25 deaths, highlighting the ongoing health risks facing children amid a worsening humanitarian crisis.
According to the latest OCHA report, by the end of March, more than 6,000 suspected cases were reported across Yemen, primarily affecting children. Laboratory testing confirmed approximately 2,500 cases, while 25 fatalities were linked to the disease during this period.
The UN warned that measles remains a serious health threat for Yemeni children, particularly amid food insecurity and deteriorating living conditions, which increase vulnerability to complications. The report emphasized that reduced humanitarian funding could undermine vaccination, surveillance, and community awareness programs, potentially raising preventable child mortality rates.
Yemen’s healthcare system continues to face significant challenges due to prolonged conflict and ongoing humanitarian emergencies. The UN called for increased international support to control outbreaks and protect the most vulnerable populations, especially children.
