UN Deputy Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Khaled Khiari has warned of rising tensions in Yemen and called on all sides to resolve disputes through dialogue rather than unilateral measures.

Speaking during an emergency session of the UN Security Council, Khiari expressed concern over developments that could increase the risk of renewed military escalation and undermine ongoing peace efforts, according to reports by Anadolu Agency.

He stressed the need to revive negotiations under UN mediation, with the goal of reducing tensions and maintaining safe and sustainable access for civilian flights in Yemen.

The UN official also highlighted the importance of protecting humanitarian and civilian interests, as Yemen continues to face the consequences of years of conflict, including a severe humanitarian crisis and fragile security conditions.

The United Nations has repeatedly called for a comprehensive political settlement in Yemen, where fighting between the internationally recognized government and the Houthi movement has caused widespread displacement, economic disruption and major humanitarian needs since the conflict intensified in 2015.
