US government ends funding for several federally funded media outlets

The US government has cut funding for several federally funded media organizations, including Voice of America (VOA), Radio Free Asia, and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Staff members received emails over the weekend informing them they would lose access to their offices and need to return government-issued equipment.

The decision follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which listed the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) among federal agencies deemed unnecessary.

Kari Lake, who was appointed to lead USAGM, stated in an email that the funding no longer aligns with government priorities.

Supporters of the move argue that it reduces government spending, while critics, including the head of Radio Free Europe, warn it could weaken US influence abroad.
