Thousands of mourners from across Iraq have gathered at the shrine of Zayd ibn Ali ibn al-Husayn, known as Zayd al-Shahid, in Babylon Province to mark the anniversary of his martyrdom on the third day of Safar.

According to the shrine administration, large numbers of visitors and Hussaini service groups have arrived to hold mourning ceremonies and honor the legacy of Zayd ibn Ali, a prominent figure from the Prophet Muhammad’s family who rose against injustice and was martyred in 122 AH.

Religious gatherings highlighted Zayd’s commitment to reform, his opposition to oppression, and his connection to the path of Imam Hussein, whose uprising he sought to continue in defense of justice and the oppressed.

The shrine’s service teams opened hospitality facilities to welcome visitors and distribute meals, while special preparations were made to provide services for mourners.

The ceremonies also included the replacement of the shrine’s dome flag with a black mourning banner, attended by large crowds of visitors and religious figures as a symbol of remembrance and devotion.

Zayd al-Shahid is regarded as one of the notable figures of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon him), remembered as a scholar, preacher, and courageous leader who advocated justice and resistance against tyranny. His legacy remains associated with the values of dignity, reform, and standing against oppression.
