Mass Processions Mark Commemoration of Imam Muhammad al-Jawad’s Martyrdom in Kadhimayn
—————————–
The city of Kadhimayn is witnessing large-scale mourning processions in honor of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (peace be upon him). The processions are a part of the annual “Jawadi” commemorations that took place in the holy city, drawing tens of thousands of mourners from across Iraq and beyond.
According to Shia Waves Agency, the mourning processions began early in the evening, with dozens of mourning caravans (mawakib al-‘aza) marching through the streets of Kadhimayn, carrying black banners and chanting elegies in remembrance of Imam al-Jawad (peace be upon him) and his sufferings. The processions coincided with the approach of the 30th of Dhu al-Qi’dah, the date marking his martyrdom.
At the Kadhimayn Shrine, where the two revered Imams Musa al-Kadhim (peace be upon him) and Muhammad al-Jawad (peace be upon him) are buried, special rituals were observed, including the exchange of the shrine’s domes’ banners to black ones as a symbol of mourning. The ceremony was attended by a large crowd of faithful.
In addition to these solemn rituals, service caravans were stationed along the streets to provide food and refreshments to the mourners.
The commemorations continue for the ten days of Jawadi, a time dedicated to reflection and remembrance of the exemplary life of Imam al-Jawad (peace be upon him), whose teachings continue to guide the faithful in piety and resilience in the face of adversity.
