Israeli Forces Bulldoze Solar Panels in Southern Lebanon, Cutting Electricity and Water Supply in Debel

Israeli military forces have bulldozed solar panels that provide electricity to the Christian‑majority village of Debel in southern Lebanon, resulting in widespread power outages and disruptions to the community’s water supply. Videos circulated by local media show military excavators damaging the solar installations that also power the village’s water pumping systems.

According to reports from Lebanese and international outlets, the destruction of the solar infrastructure has compounded already difficult living conditions in the region amid ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. In addition to the solar panels, damage has reportedly been inflicted on water infrastructure, homes, roads and olive groves in and around Debel.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said it is investigating the incident after footage circulated showing soldiers damaging the panels, stating that the recorded actions “do not align with the values and conduct expected of its soldiers.” The military added that appropriate measures would be taken based on the findings of that inquiry.

Debel has been caught up in the broader 2026 conflict in the region but had not been subject to evacuation orders, unlike other border villages. The damage to civilian infrastructure has raised concerns among residents about access to essential services, especially electricity and safe drinking water.

Separately, the village drew international attention earlier in April when an incident involving an Israeli soldier vandalising a statue of Jesus sparked widespread condemnation.
