Three people were killed and several others injured, including three police officers, in a shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Authorities said the suspected gunman was also killed, while an investigation is underway to determine the motive and circumstances of the incident.
Minneapolis Police spokesperson Garrett Parten said one person was killed at the scene, while four others were transported to hospital. One of those victims later died from their injuries.
Three police officers were also taken to hospital. Two were reportedly shot, with one suffering a gunshot wound to the leg and another undergoing surgery. Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the third officer’s injuries.
A heavy security presence was deployed around the scene. Videos circulating on social media showed police officers pointing their weapons toward a residential tower near the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Witnesses reported hearing screams and multiple gunshots, while authorities urged residents to avoid the area as emergency operations and investigations continued.
Several law enforcement agencies responded to the incident, including personnel from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, following reports of gunfire in downtown Minneapolis.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the shooting. Investigators are continuing to establish the circumstances of the incident and the sequence of events that led to the deaths and injuries.
