Grand Ayatollah Shirazi Stresses Importance of Reviving Prophetic, Alawi Models of Governance

The Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, may Allah prolong his life, has stressed the importance of reviving the conduct of the Holy Prophet and Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, peace be upon them, in governing society and managing public affairs.

His Eminence said the uprising of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, was not a movement aimed at gaining power or seeking rule. Rather, it was launched to revive the duty of enjoining good and forbidding evil, and to reform the condition of the Muslim nation.

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi said the conduct of the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his pure family, and the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, peace be upon him, represents the highest model of just governance, based on mercy, tolerance and respect for people’s rights.

He noted that history does not record political prisoners or victims punished for their political views during their rule, in contrast to later periods that witnessed injustice and oppression committed in the name of Islam.

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi also called for greater efforts in serving the Husseini cause and reviving religious rituals, especially the blessed Arbaeen pilgrimage.
