Sri Lanka Muslim Scholars Discuss Educational Challenges Facing Muslim Students
———————————-
The Fatwa Department of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) has held a meeting with relevant officials to discuss educational challenges facing Muslim students in the study of aesthetic subjects in schools and explore ways to align modern curricula with Islamic religious guidelines.
The meeting took place on October 15, 2026, at the association’s headquarters as part of ongoing efforts to address educational issues affecting Muslim students, particularly those related to the selection, study and practice of aesthetic subjects within the national education system.
Participants discussed the difficulties Muslim students encounter when studying these subjects and examined areas where Islamic religious principles may need to be considered. The discussions aimed to identify approaches that would allow students to continue their education and benefit from available academic opportunities while respecting their religious beliefs.
Representatives of the association and relevant officials also exchanged views on the inclusion of aesthetic subjects in the new school curriculum. They explored the possibility of incorporating religious considerations into the preparation and teaching of these subjects, seeking to balance educational requirements with the religious identity of Muslim students.
