95 Million People at Risk: 21% of EU Faces Poverty and Exclusion
—————————–
Approximately 21% of the European Union (EU) population was at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2024, translating to over 95.3 million people, according to new data from Eurostat, as reported by Anadolu Agency (AA).

This 21% figure represents individuals who meet at least one of three criteria: at-risk-of-poverty (income below 60% of the national median), severe material and social deprivation, or living in a household with very low work intensity.

The data suggests a persistent challenge in addressing socioeconomic vulnerability across the bloc, with a slight rise from the previous year. Significant disparities exist between member states: countries like Romania and Bulgaria recorded rates over 30%, while the Czech Republic and Slovenia maintained the lowest risk, falling below 15%.
