Exhibition in Moscow Highlights 1,100 Years of Islamic Heritage in Russia
The exhibition “Islamic Heritage of Russia: People and Traditions” was inaugurated at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, with the participation of religious, diplomatic, and cultural figures, aiming to introduce the history of Muslims in Russia and their contributions to shaping the country’s cultural identity.
The opening of the exhibition witnessed the presence of Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, head of the Religious Board of Muslims of Russia, along with several ambassadors and diplomats from Islamic countries, as well as officials from the Republic of Tatarstan and Russian cultural figures.
The exhibition, which will run until September 27, 2026, explores various aspects of Russian Islamic heritage, including the historical dissemination of the Quran, the culture of writing, historical legacy, decorative and applied arts, and fine arts among Muslim communities in different regions of Russia.
Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin stated that the exhibition allows visitors to learn about the culture and traditions of Muslims in various parts of the country, including the Volga region, the Caucasus, and Siberia, reflecting the historical and cultural diversity of Russian Muslim communities.
In her remarks, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, Irada Ayupova, expressed appreciation for organizing the exhibition, while Konstantin Blasenov, Deputy Head of the Department of National Policy and Regional Relations in Moscow, emphasized the significance of Muslims’ contributions to shaping the cultural landscape of the capital, highlighting the efforts of the Moscow Government in preserving the cultural heritage of the Muslim community.
The “Islamic Heritage of Russia: People and Traditions” exhibition coincides with the days commemorating the birth of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), as part of activities aiming to highlight the historical and cultural presence of Islam and Muslims in Russia.
