Under the patronage of the Shirazi Religious Authority, first Shia center in Athens inaugurated on the Ashura commemoration of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him)

Shias of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them) in Greece are now able to revive their various religious rituals and mourning activities, in the new Mahdia Center, which was recently inaugurated with the efforts of followers of the Supreme Religious Authority, His Eminence, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi.

According to a statement by its organizers, which was received by Shia News Agency, “This religious center is the first Shia center in the Greek capital (Athens), which was established by followers of the Shirazi Religious Authority in the country.”

The statement explained that “the blessed center was established based on the rational recommendations of the Shirazi Religious Authority, to establish the holy Husseini rituals, mourning and other activities for the Shias in the country.”

It added, “This is the first time that the Shias in Athens can have an independent Shia center to hold religious events, including the mourning of the month of Muharram, the commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).”

According to the statement, the Mahdiya Center inaugurated its mourning activities for the month of Muharram, with the establishment of mourning ceremonies, which began with a speech by the representative of the Shirazi Religious Authority, Sayyed Hashem al-Khatami, in which he stressed the “importance of establishing this center in reviving the holy Husseini rituals and embracing mourners loyal to the People of the House (peace be upon them).”
