Libya holds delayed polls in 7 municipalities after security disruptions
—————————–
On Saturday, Libya held delayed elections in seven municipalities in the country’s northwest, Anadolu Agency reported. The vote was postponed for a week due to security disruptions, including an attack on the facilities of the High National Election Commission (HNEC) in Zawiya.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed the vote and urged all parties to accept the outcome peacefully. The UN also encouraged all registered voters to participate in the elections and called on the government to remove any obstructions that prevent the continuation of elections in other municipalities. The country remains divided between two rival administrations, one based in Tripoli and the other in Benghazi.
