At least 34 people died as severe tornadoes and storms hit southeastern US

At least 34 people have died in the US after powerful tornadoes struck multiple southeastern states, including Missouri, where 12 fatalities were reported. The tornadoes devastated communities, overturning vehicles and demolishing homes. In Kansas, a dust storm triggered a fatal crash involving over 50 vehicles, claiming at least eight lives.

Over 250,000 properties were left without power, and tornado watches were issued for areas across Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. Mississippi reported six deaths due to tornadoes, and flash flooding warnings were issued for several states, including Alabama and Arkansas.

The National Weather Service warned of “intense to violent long-track tornadoes” in affected regions, advising residents to take shelter in sturdy structures. The storms have also caused wildfires and significant damage, with authorities declaring states of emergency in several states, including Missouri, Arkansas, and Georgia.

Meteorologists caution that while peak tornado season is from May to June, the risk of tornadoes remains throughout the year in Tornado Alley.
