George W. Bush Institute: Taliban should be designated as terrorist group

The George W. Bush Institute has called on the international community, especially the United States, to designate the Taliban as a “terrorist group” due to their continued ties to “terrorist groups” and continued human rights violations in Afghanistan.

The recent report of the institute, “The role of foreign enablers in perpetuating Taliban corruption in Afghanistan”, suggests that designation of the Taliban as a terrorist group will prevent them from accessing some financial resources.

According to the report, the Taliban has maintained ties with several terrorist groups, including Al-Qaeda and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The institute’s report states that the Taliban have continued to violate the rights of Afghan citizens, especially women and children, as well as “criminal and corrupt activities” to consolidate their system.

Referring to human rights violations in Afghanistan over the past two years, the institute said the international community has not been able to hold the Taliban accountable for their “crimes”.

A few days ago, George W. Bush Institute also claimed that some countries, including Iran, China, and Russia, as well as a number of foreign companies, are profiting from the “looting” of Afghanistan’s mines by the Taliban.
