Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria: the most unstable countries in the world, IEP says

The Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP) has ranked Afghanistan, Yemen and Syria among 163 countries as the most unstable countries in the world in the 2023 World Peace Ranking.

In its 17th annual report, the Institute of Economics and Peace has analyzed the state of peace in 163 countries of the world in 2022. In this report, Global Peace Index (GPI) is analyzed based on the evaluation of 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators, including the number of victims of conflicts, the number of casualties, the degree of militarization, the export of weapons, terrorist events, political instability, and the number of prisoners. According to this report, last year 238 thousand people were killed due to conflicts around the world.

This institute published its report on Wednesday June 28 in London and said that the security situation in Afghanistan is still uncertain. The report added that violence is still widespread throughout the country and terrorism remains a serious security concern.

The Institute of Economics and Peace has considered Yemen, Syria, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo to be the most unstable countries in the world, after Afghanistan. This institute has ranked Iceland, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand and Austria among the most peaceful countries in the world, respectively.
