Indian Shia Personal Law Board Calls for Diplomatic Action to Release Detained Indian Shias Abroad

The All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) has urged the Indian government to take immediate diplomatic steps to secure the release and safe return of Indian Shia Muslims reportedly detained in several West Asian countries.
Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, AISPLB General Secretary Maulana Yasoob Abbas described the issue as a humanitarian matter requiring urgent government attention. He said the board had submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting diplomatic engagement with the countries involved.
Abbas said Indian authorities should work with the governments concerned to ensure the detainees receive legal protection, fair treatment and assistance, and called for efforts to facilitate their return to India.
According to the AISPLB, 11 Indian citizens have reportedly been detained in countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, with the board alleging that some cases may be linked to their Shia religious identity.
The organization stated that many of those detained had travelled abroad for employment opportunities and urged India’s Ministry of External Affairs and its diplomatic missions to intervene and address the matter through official channels.
