Britain, European Allies Urge Halt to RSF Assault on Sudan’s El-Obeid

Britain and six European allies have called for an immediate halt to violence targeting the Sudanese city of El-Obeid, warning of credible signs of an imminent offensive by the Rapid Support Forces.
In a joint statement issued Tuesday by the UK Foreign Office, Britain, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and Norway urged the RSF to stop its attack immediately and called on all parties to de-escalate and respect international humanitarian law.
The statement said repeated drone strikes in recent weeks had killed civilians and caused severe shortages of fuel, food and water, while aid workers providing life-saving assistance had also been deliberately targeted.
The countries stressed that civilians must be allowed to leave safely and that humanitarian organizations must be granted rapid, safe and unhindered access.
UK Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper warned that the atrocities seen in El Fasher in 2025 must not be repeated, saying El-Obeid is on the brink of further devastation.
The United States and the UN Security Council have also expressed concern over possible mass atrocities in the city, which has been under RSF siege for several months.
