The Federation of Islamic Institutions and Associations in Latin and Central America, the largest representative of Muslims in the continent, condemned France’s insult against Islam, calling on French President Emmanuel Macron to apologize.
The Federation expressed, in a statement issued on behalf of Muslims in Latin America and Central America, their dissatisfaction with the continued publication of the cartoons insulting to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny, in France, in light of the explicit support of the French government, according to the statement.
The Federation considered that Islamic associations, centers and institutions in the Latin and Central American continent see this abuse as an insult to them and their religion, stressing that it is an act that is not related to freedom of expression and opinion.
The Federation also called on the French president and his government to apologize for this offense to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny, and to stop supporting discriminatory policies that link Islam with terrorism, considering this a falsification of reality and a grave offense to the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world.
