At least 25 Malian soldiers and 15 militants were killed in heavy fighting between the two sides on Monday and Tuesday in central Mali, the Malian government announced.

The government said in a statement that about 60 soldiers are still missing after the fighting that erupted after gunmen attacked two army camps in the center of the country.

This is one of the toughest strikes the Malian army has received in months, and it is also a severe blow to the force set up by the five Sahel countries (Mali, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Chad and Niger), which is under the command of one of the Malian battalions attacked by the gunmen on Monday.

The statement added that the fighting also resulted in the injury of four soldiers and that the army also suffered heavy losses in the equipment, stressing that he was able to regain control of the camps located in Pulkisi and Mondoro, which are areas away from each other about 100 km.
