Pakistan: Large meeting at the state level to commemorate the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him)

The Council of Ministers in the Pakistani province of Punjab, headed by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Affairs and Environmental Protection Committee, held a wide meeting to discuss the necessary preparations for holding mourning processions on the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), which is next Saturday (20th of Safar).

Pakistani media, followed by Shia Waves News Agency, reported that the meeting was attended by a number of ministers, officials and security leaders, indicating that “the Cabinet Committee discussed security and other arrangements to revive the Arbaeen march of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).”

The media continued, “The Chairman of the Committee, Muhammad Basharat Raja, directed all the district administrations and the police to provide the utmost security and peace for the mourning marches and processions participating in the commemoration,” noting that “more than 3,000 police officers participated in securing the occasion.”

The committee was also informed that “the army forces will be present to secure the atmosphere for reviving the occasion, as well as to secure the traffic plan and the flow of vehicle movement.”

In the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, a statement issued by the state police command said: “A broad meeting was held yesterday, chaired by Chief Inspector of Police Malik Jamil Zafar, to review the security arrangements in which all security officials in the city participated.”

He continued that “the security plan to commemorate the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) will witness the participation of 2000 police officers,” stressing “to secure the roads taken by the Husseini processions, as well as conducting inspections and checks to ensure the safety and security of the participants.”

Next Saturday, the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi will witness a unified procession to commemorate the Arbaeen.

The (Pakistan Times) newspaper said that “the convoy will be monitored by 350 cameras, in addition to being monitored by the medical committees.”
