Flag-Changing Ceremony to Mark Muharram in Holy Karbala

On Sunday night, coinciding the first night of Muharram, the red flag of the Shrine of the Honourable Sayyed al-Shuhada and Abalfazl al-Abbas, peace be upon them both, will be changed after Maghrib and Isha prayers.

The Holy Shrines are preparing for the ceremony of changing the flags of the domes, which will signal the beginning of the month of lamentation and mourning.

It should be mentioned that the Flag-Changing Ceremony is held every year on the first night of Muharram in the presence of Iraqi officials and pilgrims. The black flags will be flowing for two months over the Shrines of Imam al-Hussein and his loyal brother the Moon of Bani Hashem, peace be upon them both.

Also, ahead of the month of Muharram, the dome of the Holy Shrine of Imam al-Hossein was washed to welcome the upcoming event.
