Saudi scholars opposed to movie ‘Muhammad: Messenger of God’

Saudi Arabia’s Council of Senior Scholars claimed the movie ‘Muhammad: Messenger of God
an insult to Islam

Saudi Arabia’s Council of Senior Scholars claimed the movie ‘Muhammad: Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his progeny)’ is an insult to Islam and the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny).
In a statement, the council called for banning the film, claiming it desecrates the Holy Prophet of Islam and his companions.
The Council of Senior Scholars, the highest religious body in Saudi Arabia that advises the king on religious matters, also urged all Muslims to boycott the movie and condemn it.
The film opened the 39th edition of Montreal World Film Festival (MWFF).
Some scholars in the Muslim world, however, have been opposed to screening of the movie. They say picturing the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) is Haram (religiously forbidden).
This is while Majidi, the director of the movie, has reaffirmed that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) has not been pictured in the movie due to the sanctity of the sublime character of God’s last messenger.
