Racist attacks targeting three mosques in France


Three mosques belonging to the Turkish Islamic Union, in the French cities of Montlebon, Pontarlier, and Roubaix were subjected to racist attacks.
The Union said in a statement, that unknown persons drew crosses and wrote anti-Islam expressions on the walls of the three mosques.
The statement strongly condemned the racist attacks on mosques, stressing that the relevant authorities will be informed to hold the perpetrators accountable.
The statement expressed thanks to the French authorities for their cooperation in arresting those involved in the attacks on mosques, calling for the need to stay away from such provocative behavior.
Last year, attacks against Muslims in France increased by 53% compared to the previous year.
France is one of the largest European countries in terms of the size of the Muslim community. Until mid-2016, about 5.7 million Muslims lived there, constituting 8.8% of the total population.
