Syria’s Damascus International Airport is reopening for international flights, marking a key step in recovery after the recent overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad, The Guardian reported on Saturday.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation announced the resumption of operations, with Qatar Airways starting three weekly flights to Damascus after a 13-year hiatus.
Efforts to rehabilitate the Damascus and Aleppo airports are underway, supported by international partners. Humanitarian aid deliveries have already resumed.
The reopening comes as Syria grapples with 13 years of civil war and severe economic challenges, including damaged infrastructure and Western sanctions.
