Iraq: General Secretariat of Council of Minsters adopts 20th of Safar as Iraqi Day for Volunteer Work
The General Secretariat of Iraq’s Council of Ministers decided, today, Monday, to consider the 20th of the month of Safar which marks the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, as an Iraqi day for voluntary work.
Deputy Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Farhad Nematullah Hussein, said in a speech on behalf of Secretary-General Hamid Al-Ghazi, that “Voluntary work and its culture are of high importance and beneficial effects on the society and its members and the enhancement of mutual trust between government agencies and other sectors.”
Hussein added: “In support of this trend and our commitment to structuring voluntary activities, the approval came to form a permanent committee to follow up on voluntary work related to Cabinet Resolution 70 of 2020 from the Presidency of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the Government Coordination Department.”
The Deputy Secretary-General continued, “In order for this organizational step to be honored and blessed, the committee decided to adopt the 20th of the month of Safar of each year, which marks to the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), as an Iraqi day for volunteer work.”
