The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has confirmed that at least 25 seafarers have been killed since the conflict around the Strait of Hormuz began, with at least 130 attacks on commercial vessels verified in the region.

In a statement on November 6, IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez said thousands of seafarers remain at risk, with some crews unable to leave the Persian Gulf and facing difficulties accessing essential supplies, including food, water and medical care.

The latest reported death followed an attack on the tanker Velos Sapphire on November 5.

Dominguez called for an end to unlawful measures threatening maritime safety and international shipping, while pledging to pursue additional measures to prevent further casualties and reduce the humanitarian impact of the crisis.
