A 38-year-old Turkish father and his seven-year-old son have travelled approximately 7,000 kilometres by motorcycle from Izmir, western Turkey, to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah and visit historical and religious sites along the way.
According to Anadolu Agency, Enver Şafak Çelik and his son, Özgür Ulaş, set off from the Kemalpaşa district of Izmir province on October 3 and arrived in Saudi Arabia on October 18, travelling through Syria and Jordan.
During the journey, they visited several historical landmarks, including the Umayyad Mosque and Saladin’s Mausoleum in Syria, as well as the ancient city of Petra in Jordan. Çelik said he had previously undertaken long motorcycle trips with his son, adding that the child’s safety was his top priority and that they made frequent stops throughout the journey.
The father said one of his main aims was to introduce his son to Islam’s holy sites and nurture his love for places such as the Kaaba and the Holy Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.
Özgür said he had suggested joining his father on the trip and was especially delighted to perform Tawaf around the Kaaba, visit the Prophet’s tomb and complete the Sa’i between Safa and Marwa. The young traveller also received a warm welcome from his friends upon returning to Izmir.
