The Shiite Muslim Council of Australia Calls for Urgent Action to Monitor the Situation of Shiites in Afghanistan
The Shiite Muslim Council of Australia has strongly condemned the attack targeting the “Sham-e-Hedayat” school in the predominately Shiite and Hazara Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital. The council is urging international action to protect religious and ethnic minorities and monitor their situations in Afghanistan.
According to local reports, the attack resulted in injuries to at least 50 individuals, most of whom were female students, representing another episode in the series of violent acts targeting Shiite communities in Afghanistan.
The council expressed its full solidarity with the victims, their families, and the Shiite and Hazara communities, wishing a swift recovery for the injured. It also warned of the continuing discrimination, marginalization, and security threats facing religious and ethnic minorities in the country.
The Shiite Muslim Council of Australia called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the attack, to identify and prosecute those responsible, ensuring justice and preventing such assaults from recurring.
Additionally, the council urged the Australian government to monitor the conditions of Shiites, Hazaras, and other religious and ethnic minorities in Afghanistan, raising protection issues through diplomatic channels and international human rights forums.
The council emphasized the importance of taking practical steps to protect civilians, educational institutions, and places of worship from attacks, stressing the necessity for the international community to fulfill its responsibility in defending the rights of minorities and ensuring their security and safety.
