Study: Number of Muslims in Germany Approaches 7 Million for the First Time

A recent study has shown that the number of Muslims residing in Germany has increased to between 6.6 and 7 million during the year 2025, constituting about 8 to 8.5 percent of the country’s total population. This indicates a growing Islamic presence in German society. According to the study conducted by the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), these new figures represent a significant increase compared to previous estimates, which ranged from 5.3 to 5.6 million Muslims. The results highlight that the number of Muslims in Germany is approaching the seven million mark for the first time, reflecting demographic and social changes that have occurred in the country in recent years.

The President of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany, Abdassamad El-Yazidi, welcomed the new data, affirming that Muslims have become a well-established part of German society and that interactions with them should be based on the principles of equal citizenship and full participation in public life.

El-Yazidi called for moving beyond stereotypes and biases associated with Muslims and highlighting their contributions in scientific, economic, cultural, and social fields. He emphasized that respecting religious freedom, cultural diversity, and ensuring equality among citizens represent fundamental pillars for fostering coexistence and social cohesion in Germany amid the increasing diversity the country is experiencing.
