UN Launches First Global Dialogue on AI Governance to Strengthen International Cooperation
————————————————
The United Nations has launched its first global dialogue on artificial intelligence governance in Geneva, bringing together representatives from governments, technology companies, academia, civil society, and technical experts to discuss a global framework for the responsible and fair use of AI.

The dialogue aims to ensure that AI governance frameworks reflect the priorities of all countries, not only technologically advanced states, while promoting fair access to the benefits of the technology and strengthening international cooperation.

Sessions are expected to address key issues including the opportunities and challenges of AI, reducing the digital divide, improving global cooperation on governance, and ensuring effective human oversight of AI systems in line with international law and safety standards.

President of the UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock said the initiative is not only about regulating technology, but also about building a shared vision that balances technological progress with human dignity, fairness, and sustainable development.

The UN said existing AI governance frameworks have largely been shaped by countries with advanced technological capabilities, while less technologically influential states have had limited participation. The new dialogue seeks to address this gap by creating a permanent platform for exchanging expertise, sharing best practices, and developing a common international approach to AI governance.
