Iraqi Holy Shrines Draped in Mourning to Commemorate Martyrdom of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (Peace Be Upon Her)
—————————
Holy shrines across Iraq have been adorned with signs of mourning and grief to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her), the beloved daughter of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his family). The observances include the second Fatimid mourning period, based on the narration that the Lady passed away 75 days after the martyrdom of her father, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his pure family).
According to a correspondent for Shia Waves Agency in Najaf, the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) has been draped in mourning banners and black flags bearing the name of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her). Similar preparations and commemorative activities have taken place at the Imam Hussein and the Honourable al-Abbas (peace be upon them both) shrines in Karbala, as well as at the al-Kadhimayn and al-Askariyayn shrines.
Muslims around the world, including communities in Iraq, Iran and Syria, are marking the occasion through special religious programs at holy shrines, sacred sites, Hussainiyas and Islamic centers. These observances reflect different historical narrations regarding the date of Lady Fatima al-Zahra’s martyrdom, including the narration associated with the first Fatimid mourning period, which places her passing 40 days after the Prophet’s martyrdom.
Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi has renewed his call to Muslims, particularly followers of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), to recognize their responsibility toward the Fatimid cause, commemorate Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her) on a broad scale, and uphold the religious ceremonies held in her memory.
