New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani Endorses Muslim Senate Candidate in Michigan

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has officially endorsed Abdulrahman Al-Sayed, a Muslim Democratic candidate running for the U.S. Senate in Michigan, calling for a shift in Washington’s political priorities toward working-class needs and universal healthcare.

According to The Hill, the endorsement comes amid a closely contested race against Republican Mike Rogers, which has been marked by heated exchanges. Rogers has faced criticism over remarks questioning Al-Sayed’s background and beliefs, while Al-Sayed has challenged his opponent’s support for President Donald Trump’s policies and their impact on living costs.

The campaign has also coincided with reported shifts in political support among Michigan’s Muslim community, particularly in Dearborn. Some former Trump supporters have reportedly moved toward the Democratic candidate, citing dissatisfaction with promises to end wars and concerns over anti-Muslim rhetoric during the Republican campaign.
