The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) says at least 276 women and children were killed across Syria during the first half of 2026, highlighting the continued toll of violence on civilians amid the country’s ongoing security and humanitarian crisis.
In its semiannual report, the Observatory said 92 women and 184 children were killed between January and the end of June as a result of violence in different parts of the country. It warned that women and children remain among the groups most vulnerable to the effects of the conflict.
According to the report, January recorded the highest number of casualties among women and children during the six-month period, making it the deadliest month of the year so far as military operations and armed violence continued in several regions.
The Observatory called for stronger measures to protect civilians, urging all parties to respect international humanitarian law, safeguard women and children from further violations, and ensure accountability for those responsible for crimes committed against civilians.
