British Media Criticized for Ignoring Prince Harry’s Warning on Rising Anti-Muslim Hatred

British media outlets have faced widespread criticism for overlooking Prince Harry’s warning about growing hostility toward Muslims, while focusing solely on his comments regarding antisemitism. Critics have accused the press of double standards and biased coverage.

In an article published by The New Statesman, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, warned of increasing societal polarization in the UK, expressing concern over rising fear, anger, and the erosion of dialogue and coexistence. He highlighted the escalation of both antisemitism and anti-Muslim hatred in the context of Middle East tensions and the spread of extremist rhetoric.

Despite the article’s headline explicitly calling to “stand against both antisemitism and hatred of Muslims,” several British outlets emphasized only the antisemitism aspect in their headlines and coverage, omitting reference to Islamophobia.

The reporting sparked criticism from activists and commentators. British activist Narinder Kaur described the omission as “blatant bias”, urging media organizations to treat all community groups fairly. Journalist Sami Al-Hamadi also criticized certain newspapers for highlighting only one part of Prince Harry’s remarks, noting that leaving out his warning about anti-Muslim hatred raises questions about media treatment of religious minority issues.

The controversy emerges amid growing discussion in the UK about rising hate speech, tensions related to the Middle East conflict, and criticism of how authorities and media handle pro-Palestine demonstrations and religious discrimination. Calls for more balanced reporting on all forms of hate and intolerance continue to increase.
