Iraq’s Deputy Commander of Joint Operations and head of the security committee for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadi, said security authorities have prepared comprehensive plans and scenarios to ensure the success of the annual pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
Speaking at a press conference held at the Najaf Police Command headquarters after reviewing field preparations in the province, al-Muhammadi said security preparations began early and are based on proactive plans aimed at protecting pilgrims and ensuring smooth movement throughout the event.
He explained that the security strategy draws on experience gained from previous pilgrimages while addressing potential challenges, including extreme temperatures and the expected increase in the number of visitors. He added that security and service institutions are working together to provide protection and support until the conclusion of the pilgrimage and the safe return of visitors.
Al-Muhammadi also noted that coordination with Iran continues under existing agreements and in accordance with Iraqi laws and regulations to organize the movement of pilgrims through border crossings.
Meanwhile, Major General Ali al-Hamdani, commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces’ Central Euphrates Operations, announced the completion of a field monitoring system to support the security plan. He said coordination is ongoing among security agencies, while measures are being implemented to protect pilgrims without disrupting normal life in cities or creating a militarized atmosphere.
Security and service authorities across Iraq’s central and southern provinces continue preparations to receive millions of pilgrims traveling to the holy city of Karbala to commemorate the Arbaeen pilgrimage.
