The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has called on residents in Syria’s coastal regions, as well as in Suwaida and eastern areas, to file official complaints regarding incidents of looting and theft that occurred during recent security unrest.

The group stressed that documenting such violations is essential for holding perpetrators accountable and pursuing legal action.

According to the Observatory, Syria’s coastal region experienced a significant wave of violence in March 2025 that resulted in the deaths of more than 1,500 civilians. The unrest was accompanied by widespread looting of homes and businesses across several cities and villages, with stolen property including vehicles, gold, and jewelry.

The Observatory added that some of the thefts were carried out with the involvement of armed groups, highlighting the scale and complexity of the violations. It also noted that many victims have yet to report these incidents to authorities.

In its appeal, the Observatory urged affected citizens to contact the Interior Ministry of Syria’s interim authorities and submit formal complaints, emphasizing that such steps are crucial for documenting crimes, restoring rights, and safeguarding both public and private property.
