New York City Mayor Mamdani Condemns Crackdown on Protesters in Iran

The Shia Muslim mayor of New York City has criticized the Iranian government’s response to ongoing protests in the country, condemning reports of violent crackdowns by security forces following more than two weeks of widespread demonstrations.
According to Independent Persian, Zohran Mamdani made the remarks during a press conference, stating that he does not support the way Iranian authorities have handled the protests and describing their actions as contrary to basic human rights principles.
He emphasized that all governments have a responsibility to recognize the right of citizens to freely express their political views and to ensure public safety during demonstrations.
The mayor added that respect for freedom of expression and human dignity forms the foundation of social stability and public trust, warning that violations of these principles can have serious consequences for societies.
He also called on the international community to pay closer attention to the situation of protesters in Iran and to support their legitimate rights, stressing that silence in the face of violence amounts to acceptance of injustice.
