Syrian Forces, SDF Agree to Ceasefire After Aleppo Clashes

Following a deadly outbreak of violence in Aleppo, the Syrian government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have agreed to a de-escalation, Arab News reported. The clashes, which both sides blamed on each other, resulted in at least two civilian deaths and several injuries, including children.
Syria’s defense ministry issued an order to cease targeting SDF positions. The SDF subsequently stated it would stop responding to government attacks after de-escalation contacts. The violence erupted amidst heightened regional tension, as Turkish officials warned of military action if the SDF fails to meet a year-end deadline to integrate into the state’s armed forces.
The SDF, which controls northeastern Syria, is viewed by Turkiye as a terrorist organization. The integration of the force is seen as a critical step for mending Syria’s fractures, though the SDF is reluctant to surrender its hard-won autonomy. Due to the violence, authorities in Aleppo closed all schools and government offices on Tuesday.
