ISIS Commanders Targeted in Iraq and Afghanistan
—————————-
In a series of recent operations, terrorist groups are being targeted in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
In Iraq, a joint airdrop operation by Iraqi counter-terrorism forces and the US military resulted in the arrest of a senior member of the hardline Sunni terrorist group ISIS. The operation was conducted southwest of Kirkuk and Sulaymaniyah, and local security sources believe the arrest will deal a significant blow to the group’s activities.
Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, a media outlet close to the Taliban claims that the group’s security forces killed several ISIS members, including a commander named “Musa,” in an attack on a hideout in the Dara-e-Noor district of Nangarhar province. The region has been a hotbed of activity for the hardline Sunni group and has seen numerous clashes with the Taliban.
Security experts believe that while the killing and capture of key commanders can temporarily weaken ISIS, the threat posed by the group remains a persistent challenge in the region.
