Sixteen Bangladeshi Workers Killed in Riyadh Factory Fire

Sixteen Bangladeshi workers have died after a major fire broke out at a sofa manufacturing factory in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, according to Saudi authorities and Bangladeshi officials.

The fire occurred on Sunday at a factory located in the Al-Musa industrial area of Riyadh, killing 16 Bangladeshi workers who were inside the facility at the time of the incident.

Officials in Dhaka said Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry is following up on the case in coordination with Saudi authorities, while the Bangladeshi embassy in Riyadh is working to complete legal procedures and arrange the repatriation of the victims’ bodies.

Bangladesh’s Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, instructed relevant authorities to accelerate the process and provide government assistance and compensation support for the families of those killed.

Saudi Arabia remains the largest destination for Bangladeshi migrant workers, with around 3.5 million Bangladeshi citizens living and working in the kingdom across various sectors.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire, while Bangladeshi officials have expressed condolences to the victims’ families and pledged to continue monitoring the case until all procedures are completed.
