Groundbreaking Yoruba-English Quran Translation Launched in Nigeria
—————————-
Nigerian Islamic scholar Dr. Dauda Awwal has unveiled what is described as the world’s first comprehensive Yoruba-English Quran translation, aimed at making the holy text more accessible to the over 16 million Yoruba-speaking communities globally, Iqna.ir reported.
The project, titled “Global English-Yoruba Quran 4-in-1,” uniquely combines the original Arabic text, full transliteration, an accurate Yoruba translation, and an English translation enriched with commentary, Hadith references, biblical comparisons, and scientific insights.
Dr. Awwal emphasized that this initiative addresses a century-long need for a complete and authentic Quranic reference for Yoruba-speaking Muslims.
In addition, Dr. Awwal announced “My First 13 Surahs for Children,” an interactive edition designed for children aged five to ten. This version includes Arabic, Yoruba, and English translations of short chapters, alongside illustrations, worksheets, mobile app integration, and audio-visual recitations. He plans to freely distribute five million copies of the children’s edition across four continents and make digital formats widely available, inviting global partnerships for this cultural and interfaith initiative.
