Turkey to Restrict Social Media Access for Users Under 15 Starting November 2026
————————–
Turkey is set to introduce new restrictions preventing children under the age of 15 from accessing social media platforms, as part of a broader effort to protect minors online. The measure follows legislation approved earlier in 2026 requiring digital platforms to implement age-verification systems and prevent underage account creation.
Under the new rules, platforms will be required to verify users’ ages and block access for those below 15. Users aged between 15 and 18 will be subject to additional privacy protections and parental control measures, according to reports on the implementation framework.
The Turkish government has said the regulations aim to protect children’s mental health, privacy and safety in digital environments. Social media companies will be responsible for adapting their systems to comply with the requirements, including measures to limit harmful content exposure among younger users.
The move places Turkey among a growing number of countries introducing stricter controls on minors’ use of social media amid global concerns over online safety and the impact of digital platforms on children.
