Emergency crews have brought under control a fire triggered by a major explosion at the Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas, southern Iran, as the death toll rose to 70, according to state media.
The blast occurred on Saturday when a fuel tanker detonated at the country’s largest commercial port near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. More than 1,000 people were reported injured.
Authorities said the fire was fully extinguished on Monday after days of firefighting efforts. An investigative committee attributed the explosion to a failure to adhere to safety and passive defense standards. Officials pledged to identify those responsible.
