UK-based Islam Channel under investigation over alleged extremist content

Britain’s Islam Channel is under investigation by broadcasting regulator Ofcom for potentially breaching impartiality and inciting extremism, The Telegraph reported. A complaint filed by Dr. Taj Hargey, a prominent figure in British Islam, accuses the channel of glorifying violent Islamist movements and presenting jihadist causes in a sympathetic light.
According to the report, the complaint highlights the channel’s coverage of the October 7 attacks, comparisons between Israel and Nazis, and the promotion of Hamas as a legitimate resistance movement. The channel is also accused of consistently failing to provide a balanced view on the Gaza conflict and promoting a narrow version of Islam that excludes diverse Muslim perspectives.
Dr. Hargey alleges that the channel’s programming spreads harmful rhetoric and lacks impartiality, particularly in its political coverage. The Islam Channel has been sanctioned by Ofcom in the past for violations, including promoting hate speech and controversial views.
