Explosion in Paktia Claims Life of One Child, Injures Five
A tragic explosion in the Gol Ghundi area of Zazi Aryub district resulted in the death of one child and injuries to five others, Khaama Press reported. The incident occurred on Monday, when children were playing with an unexploded rocket shell left from previous conflicts.
Muneeb Zadran, spokesperson for the Taliban police in Paktia, confirmed that the injured children, including a girl, were swiftly transported to the hospital. Three of the injured are in critical condition, with all victims around ten years old.
Afghanistan is one of the most mine-contaminated countries globally, with remnants of war posing ongoing risks, particularly to children. According to UNICEF, over 500 children were killed or injured last year due to landmines and unexploded ordnance. The need for effective clearance efforts is urgent to prevent further tragedies and ensure a safer future for Afghan children.
