Police dismantle world’s largest piracy network in Europe

Authorities in 10 countries conducted a major crackdown on what is believed to be the world’s largest piracy network, serving over 22 million users and generating €250 million monthly in illegal revenue, The Independent reported on Thursday.

Operation Takendown, supported by Europol and the Audiovisual Anti-Piracy Alliance (AAPA), led to 11 arrests, €1.65 million in cryptocurrency seizures, and the investigation of 102 individuals, the British news agency said.

According to the report, raids across Europe targeted properties in the UK, France, Germany, and beyond, seizing 29 servers, hundreds of IPTV devices, and shutting down around 100 illegal streaming websites and domains.

Europol reported evidence of money laundering and cybercrime alongside copyright violations. The operation, which followed a two-year investigation, was praised by anti-piracy groups for its international collaboration to combat digital piracy.
